BLAZING A TRAIL ON THE CATWALK FOR TEENAGE CANCER

Fashion Designer Angy Morton will be setting fire to a couture dress on Monday, ahead of the public launch of her Pyromania collection to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Unit at Newcastle’s RVI.

19 December 2010: SNOWBOUND

Reading the news you would imagine all of Britain was completely gridlocked. Looking at the pictures from Heathrow and hearing some of the stories about grounded planes, cancelled flights and closed motorways. I am sure some parts such as the South-East are. Here we have had some snow but much as melted. However, the snow we had has frozen so there have been heavy frosts and black ice. However, there is a positive side - inspirational landscapes! Here are a few pictiures taken during a walk up to High Dam on my wedding anniversary, and then of the 'Santa train' at the weekend - by Sunday we had blue skies and intense colours ... fantastic! We are in for a very quiet (when not working) Christmas ... an 'Austerity Christmas' as some people have been calling it. So time to batten down the hatches and make the most of what is out there, on the doorstep!

7 December 2010: A MESSAGE TO MIKE ASHLEY

Do you ever get a sense of deja-vu? I suppose as a Newcastle United fan I should always expect the worst, but for once I actually thought things were beginning to look up. We convincingly achieved promotion, thrashed Sunderland and even held Chelsea to a draw. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting us to win the Premiership of anything like that, but at least I thought we had achieved some stability. But now, for once I'm completely lost for words. I confess I'm hardly an expert on the game, so no pussy-footing about this time - I'll let the real experts sum it up for you, I quote:

"Chris Hughton has brought dignity, stability and a respectable Premier League placing to Newcastle United - so it should be no surprise that his reward from owner Mike Ashley is the sack"

The Sun: "MIKE 'THE GRINCH' ASHLEY has handed popular Newcastle boss Chris Hughton the sack for Christmas."

The Guardian: "Chris Hughton managed life at Newcastle well, but he was still doomed. Underpaid and underappreciated by Mike Ashley, Chris Hughton performed an impossible job with dignity and skill."

The Mirror: "REVEALED: Why Hughton got the Newcastle Bullet. Forced to play fantasy football with Mike Ashley, not deemed 'showbiz' enough for the world stage, expected to meet with chairmen to discuss tactics ..."

The Independent: "The next Newcastle United manager will be expected to accept that the club could sell highly-rated centre-forward Andy Carroll as the board faced a dressing room revolt over their decision to sack Chris Hughton yesterday."

Well that just about wraps it up. No idea who will be the next manager but it will undoubtedly be somebody connected to what The Sun call the 'Toon's 'Cockney Mafia' social scene'. So the question has to be, do I rip up another shirt or two and create another dress? No chance ... the Keegan debacle triggered my 'Stolen Dreams' collection and I have aleady vented my frustration in several inspired creations ... all of them just as appropriate to this latest mess, but none more so than my personal favourite ... 'CHAOS' ... this one is for you Mike. Enjoy the pics!

6 December 2010: WINTER WILDERNESS

I had just woken after a long, late night working on my e-butiq when the sun came out briefly. I had only just opened my eyes when a voice from the office said, "Get your coat on, we’re going out!"
What? NOW??? What about my coffee and how about brushing my teeth?"
"No...OUT, NOW."

So you see the advantage of living in the Lakes in the winter. You don’t have to wash your face or brush your teeth, what for?...you can get away with being a grubby cave woman or you just get a handful of clean snow ... plenty around for more than just one face )) Well, it was worth it, The sun was trying very hard to break through the early morning mist in the valley, so you had bits of light catching a white tree here and there, or a duck's tail or even a goose. All I can say is that nature gives you as much as you are ready to take ... and today she didn’t disappoint. The frozen, white trees were absolutely stunning, whie the lake looked like it was boiling and everything had a shade of blue. There was nobody about to share it with ... no tourists, not even any locals out walking their dogs ... just snowmen or snowwomen (?) welcoming you, or perhaps guarding the park...very suspicious, hmmm, or judging by their ‘location’ I think they had, had a party. )) No wonder in this weather....you need a little bit more then just a sip of sherry to keep you warm. ))

3 December 2010: REDDRESSBLACKDRESS

At this time of the year it is usually very quiet in the fashion world. There is rarely much to report other than the LBD (little black dress) creeps up again now and then. As we girls all know it is unthinkable to have a wardrobe without at least one LBD.... so there you are I have decided to come up with few simple ideas, equally suitable for the office, shopping or for an evening meal or drink, a function or a night at the theatre. LBD's are for those days when decisions on what to wear go out the window.

I have extended the theme to include my RED DRESS concept. The same, simple designs in scarlet taffeta, perfect for the Christmas party. Perfect for Valentine's day. A dress to turn heads wherever you wear it,

AS YOU LIKE IT - CHARITY EVENT PICTURES

I would like to give a BIGTHANKYOU TO ALL INVOLVED -who made this event possible - the Newcastle United and Newcastle Falcons players, Leah, the organiser, Vicky, Lesley, and of course to the models and to Carly, Laura and Catherine for being so brave. The event raised around £1500 for the teenage cancer unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle.

1 December 2010: DESIGNER FASHION ACCESSORIES

Christmas is nearly upon us yet again! I think I say that every year at this time ... but now as I look out of my window I can see white flakes flying around like little fairies. I think after a hot summer you are ready to ‘cool’ down. I do really hope all will be nice and white for Christmas, like it was last year.

Well my services have been sold on Ebay to raise funds for the Brathay Trust ... so good luck to the winner! The poor soul will have to spend a day with me! I promise to do my best to make their day
both rewarding and enjoyable.

Meanwhile, as you can see I’ve been very busy. I have come up with a few ideas such as these 'proddy' wristbands, hair clips and other accessories. The techniques of 'proddy' and 'clippy' were developed in the North as means of creating rugs and mats from rags. The pieces of fabric are poked through hessian matting using either poroddy or clippy tools. It is a great way of recycling fabric. With one you are pushing the fabric through, with the other you are hooking it through and twisting it. I have made these accessories using the proddy method. Each is completely unique and those available so far are in team colours. I can also make the wristbands to order.

I have to thank Crystal Deroche for this one, a freelance fashion stylist with an eye for unusual artists around the UK. Followng LFW she dropped me a line to ask if I could loan her a couple of dresses for a magazine shoot. Krakatau, one of my new Pyromania dresses, was her choice for a project she had in mind for two fashion magazines...Fault and another one. Here is the result for the current issue of Fault Pleased? You can say that again ))
